Sheen Lane Centre facelift officially launched

5.14.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 28th Jun 2008

• A SCHEME which has transformed the area around Sheen Lane Centre was officially unveiled on 23 May.

The £225,000 scheme has revitalised a once-tired space and swept away clutter. Damaged street furniture and outdated planters have been removed, a new natural looking smooth surface provided, better lighting installed and signs and noticeboards upgraded. Other improvements include new tree and shrub planting, new and refurbished benches, improved cycle stands and more litter bins. The bulk of the funding - £175,000 - came from Transport for London (TfL), with £50,000 provided by Richmond Council. The scheme was originally initiated by the Mortlake with East Sheen Society and developed by the Council.

. . Cllr Martin Elengorn, Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, said: "The superb scheme has created a more attractive, safer and uncluttered space in the heart of East Sheen. We would like to thank the many people who helped make it a success and appreciate the patience shown by residents and businesses while it was being completed. The scheme is a fine example of what can be achieved when the Council and the community work closely together, and we are very pleased with the end result and hope everyone else is too."
